This month we have had a very special visitor up at Head Office, the wonderful Pippa who has been coming into work with her Human and Beaufort Care Group’s Therapist, Niamh.
Niamh is currently working with Pippa to complete her Therapy Dog Training with PAWS and she is due for her assessment in the New Year.
Research carried out by the University of Lincoln has shown that dog-assisted interventions with children can reduce their stress-levels and anxiety. Research by the Kennel Club also shows that 70% of adults said that dogs alleviate stress in the workplace. Other research has demonstrated that stroking a pet releases the ‘feel-good’ hormone oxytocin and lowers heart rate and blood pressure in Humans.
And it’s not all about dogs! Did you know that at Beaufort Care Group we are able to incorporate other therapies into our bespoke Therapy Packages. We can tailor individual therapies such as Play Therapy or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) alongside other interventions to support a healthy lifestyle, social skills and group work. These are practical interventions guided by the evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine Framework. This encourages us to focus on helping our children improve their diet, increase their physical activity, improve their sleep routine, manage stress, promote positive social connections and reduce harmful substance misuse. This is because we believe that it is this combination of both individual therapy and active interventions that provides our children with the best opportunity to heal from their past trauma and significantly improve their emotional wellbeing.
Our Therapeutic Team work hard to bring together bespoke Therapeutic Packages designed to suit the needs of the child they are designed for. And we do not do it alone! A pivotal part of our packages are regular collaborative sessions with other professionals to promote a unified and holistic approach to our children’s care.
