The Children and Social Work Bill was announced as part of the Queen’s Speech at the state opening of parliament on 18 May 2016. It aims to make provision about looked after children, the welfare of children; and the regulation of social workers.
The key themes that will impact the young people we care for are :
Local Authorities will be required to consult on and publish a local offer to care leavers, setting out all the services they are entitled to.
All care leavers will be entitled to a personal advisor.
All schools are to appoint an individual who holds responsibility for care leavers to improve educational outcomes.
Care plans must evidence how Local Authorities have considered the effects of abuse and neglect on the child and how placements will enable then to recover.
