Caring and understanding approach
Eight-year-old Dylan* needed a new home due to repeated breakdowns in his foster care placements. We wanted to meet him and provide him with the safe and loving home he wished for.
When Dylan first moved into Hinton Wood, it was clear that he did not trust adults easily. Dylan showed us his feelings with some challenging behaviour. But we understood that Dylan was just a frightened little boy whose early life experiences had impacted him.
Therapeutic
With the support of our psychologist, the team worked with Dylan to ensure that he felt safe, loved and securely attached to the adults around him. Dylan developed a really positive relationship with his keyworker. With her consistent support, and care from the wider team, Dylan made excellent progress. He attended school, explored his interests, went on holiday to Legoland and increased his family visits.
Dylan lived at Hinton Wood for more than two years before returning home to live with his family. It was a wonderful outcome for Dylan – testament to the extraordinary work of our team and the children in their care.

Helping LO to develop emotionally and academically
When Beaufort Care Group took over management of The Rowans, LO was being cared for by an outsourced team.
Our new manager visited LO weekly to build a relationship with him and prepare for a positive transition. The manager took over the home and put in place a team who could provide consistency.
When Laura first met LO, he would not communicate or even make eye contact. We took the time to get to know LO as an individual – his likes and dislikes, views and feelings. With this support, and consistent therapeutic care, LO begun to feel safe and show his playful personality.
